Employee Spotlight for May 2018

Our employee spotlight for May is the lovely Jennifer Bonar. She’s been part of GOC for over 6 years now, and is an excellent technician and our fabulous vision therapist. We asked her a few questions so you could get to know her a little better.

Before working at GOC, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

For four years I was the co-owner of a cleaning business. It wasn’t necessarily an unusual or interesting job, however I cleaned a lot of interesting properties.

What have you gained from working at GOC?

I didn’t realize what went on “behind the scenes” of an eye clinic. There is so much more to an eye exam than just how you see. The health of the eyes is where it begins. As an employee at GOC you are encouraged to become paraoptometric certified. With each certification, you gain knowledge about clinical procedures, ophthalmic optics and dispensing, professional issues and basic science of the eyes. Aside from the knowledge I’ve gained, I’ve also gained a family. All of my bosses and co-workers are amazing!

Best vacation you’ve been to?

Our “vacations” are always built around a sporting event for one of our kids. It would be a weekend getaway for a wrestling tournament, swim meet, baseball game, or soccer tourney. At this point, we have one that’s moved out, one about to graduate from high school, and one in junior high school. I think we may be able to start planning for real vacations very soon—vacations that don’t have an agenda.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

I always wanted to be a hairdresser. I was fascinated with cutting and styling hair. Even though I didn’t pursue that dream, I have always cut all three of my Children’s and even my husband’s hair.

What’s the one thing, you can’t live without?

My Husband…And hot sauce.
